RUELLE L'OASIS
Objectif
Resilient Heritage,
Shared Future
Mission
Located in the heart of District Central, the Chabanel sector is historically recognized as a major hub of Montreal's textile industry. Currently undergoing revitalization, it is gradually transforming into an innovation incubator while preserving its rich manufacturing heritage.
01
Rewild
Formerly a simple grass strip with little ecological or social value, this alley has been transformed into a green oasis. A mix of groundcovers, perennials, shrubs, and bushes creates a resilient, visually rich ecosystem that supports local biodiversity. These plantings help mitigate the wind tunnels created by surrounding high-rises, resulting in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
02
Structure
Inspired by textile weaves, a metallic screen serves as a trellis for climbing plants while concealing the loading dock entrance. Suspended string lights create a warm, human-scaled "luminous ceiling," providing a cozy contrast to the monumental scale of the surrounding buildings.
03
Animate
The space now offers areas for socializing and relaxation, encouraging daily use. This project exemplifies a thoughtful and sustainable approach to urban design for a greener, more vibrant District Central!
