Reinventing Montreal: 150 Louvain West, an Economic Lever for District Central
On June 5, the City of Montreal launched the 3rd edition of the Réinventer Montréal 2025-2026 competition, a call for ambitious urban projects as part of the international C40 network. The goal: to reimagine and develop the 150 Louvain West site, a strategic piece of land located in the heart of District Central.
On the strength of a concerted vision and a major mobilization effort, the SDC District Central wishes to enrich this process by contributing the expertise of its business community and its in-depth knowledge of the site.
150 Louvain West: a key site at the heart of a dynamic economic ecosystem
Located in the Chabanel sector, 150 Louvain West is much more than a vacant lot. It’s at the heart of Montreal’s 4th largest employment hub. Louvain West is part of a changing industrial territory, where businesses (services, production, retail, etc.) and residents live side by side. The area is characterized by its strong roots in the fields of design, fashion and technology, forming a dynamic and creative ecosystem. The competition is an opportunity to imagine a project in tune with this reality: connected, resilient, focused on inter-company synergy, local production, short circuits, integrated urban logistics and fundamentally sustainable. The SDC invites participating teams to think of proximity in this light.
A collective vision already in the making
Since 2018, the SDC District Central has been working with its community to shape an ambitious and inclusive vision for the future of this land. These proactive steps have laid the foundations for coherent, sustainable urban development that is firmly rooted in the neighborhood’s economic reality.
There are many structuring initiatives:
