The Solidarity Banquet: A Local Feast in the Heart of District Central
On September 2, as part of the very first Fermes en ville event, La Prairie Louvain was transformed into a grand open-air banquet, bringing together over 280 guests — entrepreneurs, community members, and partners — around a 100% local feast. Co-organized by PME MTL Centre-Ouest and the SDC District Central, this Solidarity Banquet celebrated urban agriculture as a driver of the future and aimed to connect local urban farms with key players in the food sector.
The menu, created by Chef Marc-André Royal (Le St-Urbain), showcased ingredients grown within just three kilometres of the event site. On the menu: fresh, sustainably sourced products from District Central farms and businesses such as Atelier Champignons Big Bloc, Lab Grenouille Rouge, AquaVerti, Les Fermes Lufa, Laboratoire sur l’agriculture urbaine, Opercule, Café Barista, Lieux Communs, and many others. Catering was provided by Le Festigoût, a social integration initiative from La Corbeille Bordeaux-Cartierville.
With more than 390,000 square feet of cultivated land and 28 active businesses, farms, and organizations—from production to marketing—District Central stands as Montréal’s largest hub for urban agriculture. Supported by partners such as MAPAQ, Desjardins, Tourisme Montréal, and Aliments du Québec, the event proved that it’s possible to produce, process, and consume locally—within just a few city blocks. A delicious and community-minded evening that perfectly reflects a territory that is innovative, interconnected, and firmly focused on the future.
