DISTRICT CENTRAL

District Central is Montreal’s 4th largest employment hub generating more than 25,000 jobs in a growing business ecosystem and has the potential to accommodate up to 40,000 workers. The district boasts a variety of industries and draws on three business pillars: design (textile), urban manufacturing and technology. The District covers a three-square kilometre quadrilateral from Saint-Laurent Boulevard to Highway 15, and Highway 40 to Sauvé Street. Montreal’s new business neighbourhood is right HERE.

 

CONNECTOR OF OPPORTUNITIES

Shared economy and short circuits are at the heart of Connector of Opportunities’ services. It aims to identify business opportunities to support businesses in District Central and promote development of the territory. Connector of Opportunities enables companies to develop their network of collaborators in District Central, to share their business needs (I offer / I seek) and to prosper thanks to business links with their corporate neighbors and projects developed expressly for them. To do this, the SDC is on the ground, meeting their needs. These services are at the heart of the SDC’s raison d’être.

 

THE SDC IS HIRING !

The SDC is looking for a dynamic, committed, and experienced candidate to function as an ambassador for the territory and its businesses in the role of Project Manager – Connector of Opportunities.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and animating the District Central business community. He/she will be in contact with local companies to identify business opportunities and develop concrete initiatives inspired by current and future trends. They will also be responsible for identifying the needs and challenges of businesses and proposing innovative solutions, in collaboration with the SDC’s network of resource partners that has been developed over the years.

They will be a privileged contact for businesses, enabling them to identify opportunities for the development of the area and to mobilize the neighborhood’s socioeconomic players around them. Finally, thanks to their communications skills, the person will be an important liaison between businesses and the SDC team, enabling the latter to respond to the immediate and future needs of its members.

 

JOB-RELATED DUTIES

  • Develop, maintain, and animate the District Central business community. Contacting local businesses and meeting them on site (e.g. company visits).
  • Responsible for the ‘Espace Connect’ digital communication platform dedicated to businesses in the neighbourhood: posting content online, managing users and groups, moderating.
  • Identifying issues, needs, and opportunities for businesses.
  • Rigorously enter the information and data collected into the SDC’s CRM tool, analyse the data (in collaboration with the SDC’s business intelligence coordinator), and identify trends to develop strategies tailored to the needs of businesses.
  • Create business links between companies and ensure the necessary follow-up.
  • Develop and maintain a network of resource partners and collaborators.
  • Organise and lead committees and collaboration circles for companies according to their needs.
  • Participate in events representing businesses and partners (e.g. 5 à 7, launches, forums).
  • Represent the SDC on committees and panels of socio-economic partners (e.g. Table d’employabilité Ahuntsic-Cartierville).
  • Present the SDC’s services at networking and representation activities (e.g. discovery breakfast).
  • Develop and manage new projects and services to meet business needs.
  • Negotiate and draft partnership agreements and ensure their implementation.
  • Develop the tools needed to implement projects and services (e.g. communication tools, promotion, canvassing material) in collaboration with the communications team.
  • Drawing up financial packages and budget forecasts for the services and projects deployed, where necessary, ensuring follow-up and consistent accounting treatment.
  • Preparing and drafting the necessary reports, balance sheets and presentations related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Understand and work with the SDC ecosystem. Knowing how to consult with the right resources.
  • Communicate and consult with other members of the SDC team in the areas of communications, events, strategy, accounting and administration. Explain topics to stakeholders. Regularly analyse project performance and make recommendations to management to adjust strategy.
  • Ensure that services and projects are aligned with the District Central’s business plan, the SDC’s strategic orientations for the territory and all other SDC projects underway or in development.

CONDITIONS

  • Effective start date: April 7, 2025
  • Salary to be determined according to experience.
  • Mostly weekday daytime hours, with occasional evening and weekend availability
  • Work from home possible with regular attendance at the office.

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in a relevant field (e.g. economic development, entrepreneurship, public affairs, business administration, project management).
  • Extensive experience in the business and relational environment.
  • Excellent ability to bring together companies and socio-economic partners with varied profiles and objectives.
  • Good knowledge of business practices in general and trends in the local economy (short circuit).
  • Excellent command of both spoken and written French and English.
  • Experience in associations working in economic development.
  • Knowledge of the textile and/or agri-food industry (an asset).
